ABOUT RINCHENPONG

Rinchenpong, Kaluk in West Sikkim is situated between 88° - 20° East longitude and 27°14° North latitude and falls at an elevation of 5576 ft. above MSL.

The area surrounding Rinchenpong has got significant historical, cultural, natural and religious importance and thus has been considered as Eco-tourism thrust area in Sikkim by the State Forest, Environment & Wildlife Department.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Rinchenpong is mainly surrounded by many small hamlets of Lepcha Villages, and their culture traditions and life style are still well preserved. Besides this, a fairly large number of Gurungs, Rais and other communities are also living together with Lepcha tribal people with peace and harmony. 

Rinchenpong is the forest and buffer zone area of Barshey Rhododendron sanctuary. The area is gifted with abundant natural resources and a natural paradise for the nature lovers, conservationists, botanists, zoologists and environmentalists. 

 

IN and AROUND RINCHENPONG

The Heritage House was supposed to have been built somewhere in the year 1860. Most amazing and peculiar aspect of this house is the multi cultural architecture that has been used. For one to explore the interior of this house itself is a new discovery.

 
     
 

Rinchenpong Monastery of "Ati Buddha" which is about two centuries  old is located at a walkable distance from the bazaar. the statue of Ati Buddha with a lady holding him is a unique feature of this particular monastery, symbolizing the power of male and female together.
