MOUNTAIN BIKING |
|
Mountain biking
around the retreat will take you to Lingdum and
Rumtek Monastery. Lingdum Monastery is situated at
about 15 kms from Gangtok. This Monastery is the new seat
of the Zurmang Kagyud Tradition. The present Rimpoche, H.H.
the 12th Zurmang
Gharwang founded the Zurmang Kagyud Buddhist foundation in
1991 in order to serve humanity. This complex sprawls upon
a 21 acre well forested slope. It reminds one of the |
|

|
| wonder, compassion and enlightenment of
the twelve incarnations of the Rimpoche.
The sanctimonious interiors of Lingdum Monastery baffle
one at first sight. The huge gongs, the colourful cloth
pendants, the meticulous wood carvings and the meditating
monks in crimson robes offer a divine appearance. |

Rumtek Monastery, the largest Dharma Chakra Centre is one of the largest and
premiere monastery in Sikkim. It lies
about 24 kms from Gangtok and is the seat of H. H. The Gyalwa
Karmapa. Located on the hill facing Gangtok it offers an
imposing view. The present monastery was constructed by H.H.
the 16th Karmapa in 1960s who settled here in the late 50s.
Apart from valuable religious scriptures, statues, wall
paintings and exquisite thankas it also houses the auspicious
black hat handed down by |
| the Karmapas over the ages. And this,
is believed would fly away if not held or kept in a box. |
